We painted the picture in our first “Industry Innovations” article. You’re a farmer harvesting wheat, a hydraulic hose blows, and a storm is on the horizon. We have all heard the story before and the QuickFix kit is a great solution. However, Nitta outdid themselves. A 3000 PSI push on fitting.
Nitta has had push on fittings for a long time now, called the Campucka fitting. The only problem was that they were for their lower PSI line of hose (such as their 1000 series). Due to the success of the QuickFix kit, the engineers realized that there is a large market for 3000 PSI thermoplastic hose (CLICK HERE to compare thermoplastic to spiral and braided hose) and fitings.
Previously, the quickfix kit came with the N3000 Series of hose and several two piece fittings. These fittings were; NPT, JIC, and ORFS. The three most commonly used fittings on the American market. This was a nice, quick fix for when a hose shop is 30 minutes away but the QuickFix still took some time to assemble.
The HIPPO fitting, an loose acronym for High Pressure Push On, has been fitted for HT line of hose. The HT hose operates at 3000 PSI and has an operating temperature of -4 to 175 degrees fahrenheit. The fitting operates under the same conditions. Check out the burst test below.
The idea behind this was to create a fitting that truly required no tools and can be assembled in mere seconds. The fitting is very similar to the “shark bite” that you see in pumbling. Hippo fittings can be removed and adjusted with a tool as long as the hose has not been energized. Once the hose is energized, teeth in the fittings bite down on the hose and lock it in. The HIPPO fitting currently comes in 3/8” and 1/2” options with JIC and ORFS. Hopefully more sizes, NPT, and BSPP options are on the horizon as well.
